Leadership to Address the Fiscal Challenges of Special Education

6 hours total (Two 3-hour sessions)

This online workshop is for Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, School Business Officials, Special Education Administrators, and other leaders with an interest in administration of special education programs. Districts may want leadership teams to participate.

This is a practical workshop to help you identify decisions and structures that fiscally impact special education services. The introduction will review the fiscal structure options of special education services and how administrative structure works as part of your school district’s budget strategies. Dr. McLeod and Ms. Blackman will identify pressure points and offer specific fiscal strategies to address special education costs while meeting student needs. You will develop the skills needed to analyze areas of concern in your own district. Between the two sessions, you will have the opportunity to analyze components of your district’s special education services and budgets. You will be provided structured worksheets. You will participate in structured exercises to review your district’s fiscal history and assess the effectiveness of your district’s leadership structures in addressing the fiscal challenge of special education.

This online workshop is interactive. Participants are requested to be online in both audio and video, and attentively participate.

Workshop related materials - readings or homework - should be on hand during the workshop sessions. Workshop related materials will be e-mailed to you prior to the workshop, following registration.
