A Sense of Place: Featuring Lauren Whearty and Kelly Kautz from Art of the State 2021
“A Sense of Place” refers to the emotional connection between people and their surroundings. This subject was explored by Lauren Whearty and Kelly Kautz, who won Art of the State awards for their paintings of interior scenes. Because artists have been painting interiors for centuries, the views are often examined to provide information about an artist’s material culture, society, and the emotional connections between the artist and his/her/their surroundings. Join State Museum Fine Arts Curator Amy Hammond and painters Lauren Whearty and Kelly Kautz to learn about the artists’ interiors and how they represent “A Sense of Place” for us today.
Presentations will start at 12:15 PM and will last approximately 20 minutes followed by a question and answer period.
Sessions will be presented over Zoom and are free, but registration is required. Once registration is complete, attendees will receive an attendance link and password for all of the sessions listed.
