World War I and the Scopes Trial
Part 1 (Guest Presenter Tanner Wells, park manager at Alvin C. York State Historic Park).
World War I destroyed European empires and fostered the environment that led to the second World War and Cold War. Its battles killed and maimed millions and scarred a generation of soldiers and civilians. Tanner Wells talks about some of the most important and fascinating Tennessee connections to the Great War--from Medal of Honor recipient Alvin C. York to the half-dozen Tennessee soldiers who nearly kidnapped the Kaiser of Germany.

Part 2 (Guest Presenter Tom Davis, Rhea County Administrator of Elections):
The Scopes Trial has been called the “trial of the [twentieth] century,” and was a huge deal at the time. It was, among other things, the first trial broadcast nationally to a live radio audience. However, what was the trial really about? Did it settle anything? Did it work out the way the people of Dayton had hoped? And how did it change the way Americans view and feel about public education?
