HSE National Office for Human Rights and Equality Policy
Getting ready for the commencement of the Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act 2015
The National Office for Human Rights and Equality Policy based in Strategy and Research was established to support health and social care services to prepare for the commencement of the Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act 2015 which is scheduled to be commenced imminently. The role of this office is to build the capacity and capability of staff to achieve compliance with human rights policy and legislation.

The Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act 2015:
• Introduces new guiding principles about interacting with a person who has difficulties with their decision-making capacity
• Establishes a tiered system of decision support arrangements for people who need help with making decisions
• Abolishes the current wardship system and requires all wards of court to be discharged from wardship within three years of commencement of the Act.
• Establishes the Decision Support Service.

The objectives of the webinar are to:
• Stimulate discussion about practical considerations on commencement of the 2015 Act
• Provide guidance to services and practitioners
• Identify areas of uncertainty and learning needs
