Yemen’s Economy: What next? (BYS Event)
As part of its 'Winding Down the Yemen War' series of events, the BYS is organising the following event to focus on some of the major challenges that will face Yemen as it rebuilds its economy.

Yemen’s Economy: What next?

A briefing and discussion with Amat Alim AlSoswa, a former Managing Director of Yemen’s ‘Executive Bureau’ (which prioritised major aid projects for Yemen in the pre-war period), former Minister of Human Rights, former UN Assistant Secretary-General and UNDP Regional Director for the Arab States. At the Executive Bureau, she monitored and evaluated the set of reforms agreed by the Yemeni government and the major donor countries to enhance Yemen’s economic performance and generate jobs and supporting efforts to address humanitarian issues. She is a well known female Yemeni senior politician and was co-editor of ‘Building a New Yemen; recovery, transition, and the international community’ published by I B Tauris 2021.

The event will be introduced by James Firebrace as BYS Chair, with the Q&A moderated by Noel Brehony, co-editor with Amat of ‘Building a New Yemen'.

It will be a hybrid-event with in-person meeting on 21 March at 6:30 pm (GMT) at SOAS University of London in Room 201 as well as a broadcast on Zoom. Please use the link to register for the virtual event and email Ibrahim at events@b-ys.org.uk if you would like to join the in-person event.

As attendees will need to register at the SOAS reception do allow a few minutes for this. Room 201 is on the second floor. The SOAS campus can be a little confusing for people not familiar with it, so if you're coming up the main stairs, then you just need to walk straight ahead to the room (the room is in the central area of the second floor, facing the main stairs).

This event is open to non-members of the British Yemeni Society.
