This presentation will cover biology, behavior, important species, and management of ticks with emphasis on public health, lawns and landscapes in community environments. Ticks are an incredibly diverse group of blood-feeding parasitic arthropods, are found all over the world and vector the widest variety of pathogens. About 12 tick species are of public health or veterinary importance in the US. Ticks can be encountered in a wide range of environments, from natural or wooded areas to residential lawns and gardens and depending on the region they can be active year-round. While tick populations may fluctuate due to natural factors, remediation is frequently required for complete eradication.
