It will be a virtual farm tour, a Webinar including video footage of the farm shot before the meeting.
This will be an ideal opportunity to visit Balcaskie Farms, and both hear about and see their regenerative agriculture without leaving your home, no travel or inclement weather!
Sam Parsons, Farm Manager will use video to show us round some of the farm enterprises including the cattle, mob/tall grass grazing, winter bale grazing, herbal leys and cropping with heritage varieties. Hear how they have extended the grazing season, shortened the winter housing period, finish their beef entirely on grass/grass silage and how they operate entirely from soil to table.
There will be time for questions.
Balcaskie Estate is owned by the Anstruther family and covers approximately 1800Ha in the East Neuk of Fife.
The in-hand farming operation covers 1300 Ha from coastal deep fertile soils to 185m above sea level with shallow peaty soils over clay. Enterprises include 300 Suckler beef cows, 1200 breeding ewes, 7 sows and arable land producing milling wheat, rye, oats, barley and beans. With the organic conversion phased over 6 years to provide time to change what was essentially an arable farm with livestock into a livestock farm with some arable, the first 600 Ha converted in 2016 and final phase in 2022.
