Invasive Species Webinar Series: Part IV The Entomological Society of America P-IE Section Invasive Species Wildly Important Goals team is working with USDA APHIS to develop a four-part webinar series that will take place October to December 2021. The fourth part of this webinar series will be presented on December 1st at 2 pm ET by Greg Rosenthal (Communications Manager, USDA APHIS) and Dr. Ronald Weeks (National Science Coordinator, USDA APHIS PPQ). The presentation will be focused on USDA APHIS communication regarding invasive species, research collaborations with USDA APHIS, as well as jobs at USDA APHIS for those interested in working to detect, regulate, assess the risk of, or communicate about invasive species. This webinar is open to all Entomological Society of America members.

Speakers

Dr. Ronald Weeks
Ronald earned Master of Science (Colorado State University) and Doctor of Philosophy (Texas A&M University) degrees in entomology. He has worked for APHIS PPQ for 19 years on a variety of plant pest issues and programs. Currently, he is the National Science Coordinator for PPQ’s biological control, imported fire ant, and PPA 7721 programs. He provides multiorganizational coordination and leadership in pursuing, evaluating, and advancing innovative, science-based strategies for plant protection emergencies and priorities. Specifically, as the science and technology representative for APHIS PPA 7721, he helped develop their implementation plan, coordinate scientific reviews, project assignments, and supports all aspects of program function and processes.
Greg Rosenthal
Greg Rosenthal is the Communications Manager for USDA’s Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ), where he leads the program’s communications to external and internal stakeholders. Over his 17-year USDA career, he has also served as a Writer/Editor, Public Affairs Specialist, and Communications Specialist. His experience covers public outreach campaigns, stakeholder engagement, media relations, speech writing, outreach publications and websites, and social media. Rosenthal earned a B.A. in hearing and speech sciences from the University of Maryland at College Park and a B.A. in communication studies from the University of Maryland University College.
