Join curator and writer Fernanda Brenner (Brazil/Belgium) and artist Yuli Yamagata (Brazil) in conversation as part of the BAJO EL SOL series, a project by Travesía Cuatro. BAJO EL SOL is a series of filmed conversations, and a communication platform dedicated to the dissemination of voices that analyze and transform today’s world coming from the Global South, whose work and lines of thought expose or claim alternative social, intellectual, climatological and technological models, with a contemporary and transdisciplinary approach. This is the first of two conversations to coincide with an exhibition based on the series currently showing at Travesía Cuatro, Madrid until 30 July 2022. In collaboration with SOUTH SOUTH Talk, this is the first BAJO EL SOL conversation to be presented live, with the opportunity for audience engagement.
Fernanda Brenner is a curator and writer based in São Paulo and Brussels. She is the founding director of Pivô, in São Paulo, works as a Latin American art advisor for Kadist Art Foundation, and is part of the curatorial team of Nesr Art Foundation. Since 2017 she has been a contributing editor of Frieze Magazine.
Yuli Yamagata is a Brazilian multidisciplinary artist living and working in São Paulo. Her works move on the border between dream and reality, drawing inspiration from mass culture and pushing the viewers to abandon themselves to the possibilities of her oneiric imagination. Noteworthy solo shows include: ‘Afasta Nefasta’ (Ordet, Milano, 2022); ‘Insônia’ (Fortes D'Aloia & Gabriel, São Paulo, 2021); ‘Bruxa’ (Madragoa, Lisbon, 2020); ‘Microwave Your Friends’ (Invitro, Romania, 2019).
