Description
Traditional Ethiopian scholars inscribed Geez Script on stones and goat parchments (branna) for centuries to pass their wisdom to future generations. However, civil wars and social movements caused destruction and, in some cases, total annihilation of these literary works. Foreign agents likewise looted thousands of the remaining ancient Geez manuscripts that carry indigenous knowledge on medicine, religion, history, and our social philosophy. Regardless of the challenges, the Ethiopian writing system kept growing. A few centuries ago, the Geez script added a few more characters to become an Amharic script. Recent studies show that this script can represent the sound of any language better than any other script in the world. In modern technology, an excellent example of its exciting showcases would be its competence in Artificial intelligence, technology, office products, document processing, speech synthesis and conversion, optical character recognition, question and answering, intelligent search engines and computer programming. The conference will shade light and reverence on the wealth of ancient Ethiopian literature and the scrupulous Amharic translations of sophisticated scientific and technological concepts and appreciate the role of Amharic in Artificial Intelligence.
