Join us for an interactive author workshop with Alison Weatherby, who will talk about the inspiration behind her new book, The Secrets Act, which follows two young Bletchley Park workers, Ellen and Pearl, as they solve a mystery, decode ciphers, chase a spy, and find romance.
But, Bletchley Park was not all work. The girls knew how to have fun, with social clubs, theatre, and other activities that allowed them to de-stress from their demanding jobs, make lasting friendship, and in some cases, fall in love! Alison will talk about the real-life marriages that came out of work at Bletchley Park, as well as the life-long friendships like that of Ellen and Pearl.
Learn how Bletchley Park helped pave the road for girls in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), and how Alison’s own career in technology helped inform The Secrets Act.
Following Alison’s talk, you’ll have the chance to test your skills and break some codes. Be inspired by Ellen and Pearl and have a go at breaking some secret coded messages with the Bletchley Park Learning team. All you need is a piece of paper and a pencil.
After Alison’s talk and the interactive codebreaking workshop, there will be a Q&A session where you can put questions to Alison and the Bletchley Park team.
This event is best suited for 10 – 14 year olds.
