Cover to Cover: Mohammed bin Salman: The Icarus of Saudi Arabia?
The World Affairs Councils of America’s Cover to Cover webinar on Tuesday, September 20, at 2:00-3:00 PM ET, features David Ottaway, a Middle East expert and author, in conversation about Saudi Arabia and its young, controversial leader Mohammed bin Salman.

In the aftermath of President Biden’s visit to Saudi Arabia in July and one year since the publication of Mohammed bin Salman: The Icarus of Saudi Arabia?, we must ask ourselves: Who is MBS and how has he shaped Saudi-U.S. relations? With brilliant analysis and insights, veteran Washington Post foreign correspondent and author David Ottaway takes readers into the world of modern Saudi Arabia and the man who is poised to rule the country for decades to come.

David B. Ottaway received a BA from Harvard, magna cum laude, in 1962 and a PhD from Columbia University in 1972. He worked 35 years for The Washington Post as a foreign correspondent in the Middle East, Africa, and Southern Europe and later as a national security and investigative reporter in Washington before retiring in 2006. He has won numerous awards for his reporting at home and abroad and was twice a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. Ottaway was a Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson Center in 1979-80 and again in 2005-06 and is currently a Middle East Fellow. He and his wife, Marina Ottaway, co-authored A Tale of Four Worlds: The Arab Region After the Uprising (2019) - they appeared together as Cover to Cover speakers at that time.
