Makerspaces have been a major feature of the library programming landscape for a decade, but for many libraries, they are still something of a white whale—elusive and intimidating. In this session, we will peel back the hype and look at ways that libraries can develop sustainable STEAM programming that meets the needs of their community without overcommitting resources.
Benjamin Ehlers is a Library Development Services Librarian with Yellowhead Regional Library. Prior to this, he worked for eight years with Edmonton Public Library facilitating making and creating initiatives for patrons and staff. When he isn't working to support libraries, he can be found in his basement where he enjoys tinkering with electronics, making music, and playing games with his family.
