The Unseen Population: Giving a Voice to Young Caregivers
Description
Young caregivers are children and young adults aged five to 25 who provide personal, emotional or financial support to a family member due to a chronic illness, disability, mental health concern, substance misuse, or socioeconomic factor. While there are an estimated 1.25 million young caregivers in Canada who play a vital caregiving role within their family, they often go unrecognized and unsupported by professionals in their lives.
The Young Caregivers Association®, which provides dedicated support to young caregivers and their families, is excited to launch its newly developed Knowledge Centre, an online platform equipped with tools and resources designed to help young caregivers, their parents and professionals in a young caregivers’ life support them throughout their caregiving journey.
To mark the official launch of the Knowledge Centre, we are bringing educators, researchers and health care professionals together to have a shared conversation about needs and issues facing young caregivers across the country and the ways professionals can play a role in helping to identify, support and empower young caregivers across Canada.
