Part One: By Stage, Steamboat and Railroad – a power point by “History” Bill Carey demonstrating how people got from place to place in Tennessee in 1790, 1830 and 1855. Or, how it once took a week to get from Knoxville to Nashville (by the Fort Blount Road); then 2 days and 2 hours (by stagecoach) and then about 10 hours (by railroad).
Part Two: Old Tennessee Maps: How you can download them and How you can use them to turn your students into history buffs. We will focus on 4 maps in particular: one from 1796, one from 1832, one from 1888 and a railroad map from 1903. All of these maps are downloadable on the internet, so everything we do in this presentation can be shown to your students.
