Lessons Along the Journey: Taking Action Toward Racial Justice in Public Health Systems
Over the last 15 years, Prevention Institute (PI) has been on a journey that is taking us beyond the work of understanding and documenting health inequities towards an emphasis on operationalizing racial justice for improved health, safety, and well being. Funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Beyond COVID-19 Recovery: Advancing a System of Prevention for Racial Justice and Health Equity proposes that this point in history should be the catalyst to drive systemic change toward a racially just and equitable future.

Along this journey, PI has prioritized the importance of sharing and learning together across projects to build our collective intelligence as part of our own internal process. Through this discussion and learning series we offer the opportunity to broaden this work and extend our ongoing learning outside our organization.

PI will facilitate a three-part, bi-monthly learning series:
- Uplifting lessons from resistance movements that have been led by communities of color, acting in opposition to white supremacy racism/systemic racism in the U.S.
- Sharing preliminary learnings and reflections across PI’s projects that are rooted in racial justice
- Facilitating conversations with advocates on topics at the intersection of racial justice and public health

Across these three virtual learning sessions we will engage participants with recurring themes and lessons learned, including:
1. Understanding the role of public health in social movements for racial justice and health equity
2. Cultivating authentic partnerships, power sharing, and responding to push back to anti-racism in practice
3. Emerging policy themes and opportunities to embed racial justice and health equity in public health policy and advocacy efforts
