staibdance is one of five Southern modern dance and contemporary ballet companies participating in South Arts' Momentum. Through Momentum, each company receives the support, mentorship, and networking opportunities necessary to redefine their approach to the field of presenting and touring. In this conversation, we will discuss staibdance's recent residency with the Alabama Dance Council, their time in Momentum, and how the program has helped shape their artistic choices.
staibdance is an Atlanta-based contemporary dance company that values the provocative power of movement. Through performances, workshops and intensives, they celebrate their dynamic cultural ecosystem, and ignite conversations to foster community. Throughout their 13-year history, staibdance has been an ever-evolving organization that consistently asks: who were you? who are you? who will you become? Their performances and classes ask participants to lose themselves and find themselves through evocative imagery both on the stage and in the studio classroom. They meet, head-on, the joys, challenges, curiosities and beauty that contribute to our dynamic, universal experience – that which make us human - to ignite conversation and re-reveal the sublime and transformative effects of truthful human interaction.
