PACRAO: #StopAsianHate, Learn Asian American History
Since the start of the pandemic, violence against Asian Americans has been increasing, especially against the elderly. Due to this escalation, Illinois was the first state to pass legislation to require Asian American history be taught in the public curriculum through the TEAACH ACT (Teaching Equitable Asian American Community History). Although the violence against Asian Americans has increased in recent times, this is not a new phenomenon. The session provides an overview of the history of violence and racism that Asian Americans have endured. Three members from AACRAO’s AAPI Caucus will review historical incidents, federal regulations and share their own experiences.
