Always passionate about instilling the importance of education to her 5 children, at UW Child Care Centre she volunteers her time teaching Indigenous teachings once a week through Indigenous books, puppet shows, teaching the 7 sacred teachings and the Ojibway language of each of the animals. She believes that the 7 teachings are universal have lifelong importance and can be adapted to different cultures. The importance of an Indigenous Doula, traditional practices and knowledge in the birthing process is of particular interest to Tara. She’s currently pursuing a Master's in the Development Practice program at UW hoping to incorporate her Indigenous knowledge with sustainable development to address the health issues faced by many Indigenous communities.
