The South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA), Embassy of Spain and the British High Commission in South Africa are hosting a seminar in the run-up to the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP-26). The webinar will focus on “COP-26 and the energy transition in South Africa” and set against the expectations from COP 26, informed by scientific views and international best practices.
The discussion will focus on what South Africa can learn from the international community about setting an ambition to net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and the opportunities and challenges in achieving a just (but rapid) transition. Additionally, some of the key lessons arising from South Africa. This webinar aims to create a space to examine other opportunities that exists in South Africa for international support to accelerate energy transition and move to a greener economy.
