Cherokee Culture and the Trail of Tears
Part One: From the summer house to the clan structure, Cherokee culture is not only required in the social studies standards, it’s an engaging topic for students of all grades. Mark and Sherry Finchum of Indian Creek Productions will examine Cherokee ways of life in the 18th century, with an exploration of various beliefs and customs, housing, clans, recreation, weapons, homes and more.

Part Two: Today we read a lot about the Trail of Tears, but most of the sources we use are second-hand sources. “History Bill” has spent hours searching through newspapers from 1835 to 1838 and has amassed a remarkable collection of first-person accounts, some of which describe what the migration looked like and reflect points of view that will shock people today.
