What can Indonesia’s G20 Presidency and ASEAN Chairmanship deliver on global food security?

About the Hybrid Seminar

Due to the war in Ukraine, which has caused large food and fuel price hikes, global food security is becoming high on the G20 agenda this year. In May, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution without a vote on the “State of Global Food Security”, calling upon the G20 to place global food security at the top of their agenda and to support multilateral efforts in finding affordable solutions to the crisis. Although global food security has been discussed at the G20 Summit since 2011, progress on global food security cooperation is disappointing despite the recurring global food crises. There is still no mechanism in place to deal with largescale disruptions to food supplies such as what the war in Ukraine has caused. Concrete deliverables on global food cooperation could be one legacy of Indonesia’s G20 presidency. The momentum could then be carried forward into Indonesia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2023. In this webinar, we will discuss what Indonesia’s G20 Presidency and ASEAN Chairmanship can deliver on global food security.
