Jazz, Hope, and the Gospel: an Online Conversation with William Edgar, Ruth Naomi Floyd, and Carl Ellis
Jazz music has the power to express the deepest meanings of life. Its rich history and distinctive elements like improvisation and syncopation reflect the complexity and richness of the human experience.

In his new work, A Supreme Love: The Music of Jazz and the Hope of the Gospel, theologian and jazz pianist William Edgar traces the development of jazz within the context of the African American experience and argues that the music form cannot be properly understood apart from the context of the Christian gospel.

On Friday, August 5th at 1:30pm ET, we invite you to join us for an Online Conversation with William, who will speak with vocalist and composer Ruth Naomi Floyd along with Carl Ellis, professor of theology and culture at Reformed Theological Seminary. They’ll discuss the way jazz encompasses the movement from deep lament to irrepressible joy, reflects the creation of harmony out of chaos, and presents the unique hope of the gospel.

Thank you to Fetzer for their support of this event.
