Feb 14, 2025 09:00 AM
Description
This session will highlight the collaborative efforts across different stakeholders to improve workers’ wages in the garment and footwear sector. These efforts include two GIZ-funded projects FLA has led in partnership with GIZ’s Initiative for Global Solidarity and Partnership for Sustainable Textiles that demonstrate how collaboration between brands and suppliers can promote fair wages and equitable working conditions for garment workers. Through these case studies, participants will explore the gap between legal minimum wages and living wages, and how responsible purchasing practices—such as fair pricing, long-term partnerships, and predictable order volumes—can help bridge this divide. The session will also emphasize the importance of integrating worker voices in wage-focused projects, ensuring their perspectives are central to efforts aimed at improving conditions. Additionally, we will discuss how the unique political and economic contexts in Vietnam and Bangladesh influence wage policies and working conditions, highlighting the importance of considering local dynamics when addressing wages to ensure effective and sustainable outcomes. Finally, the session will include the efforts scale and maximize impact, underscoring the crucial role brands play in driving positive wage outcomes.
