Practical Skills for Identifying and Managing Trauma Symptoms in Incarcerated Individuals
This presentation will review the available research on trauma rates among incarcerated populations, outline the potential consequences of unmanaged trauma, review assessment and identification skills that may be used to identify persons with a history of trauma and/or are exhibiting trauma symptoms and describe concrete skills that may be used to help patients management trauma symptoms.

Program Objectives:
1. Review the research on trauma rates in correctional populations, as well as consequences of unmanaged trauma symptoms in incarcerated individuals.

2. Identify assessment and identification skills that may be employed with incarcerated individuals with a history of trauma and/or who are exhibiting possible trauma symptoms

3. Describe concrete skills that will help patients manage symptoms of trauma, based on evidenced -based treatments and skills (Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy).
