Glimpses of And Still We Rise: Influence: Katherine Dunham and Black Dance
A dancer and choreographer, Katherine Dunham (1909-2006) was a major influencer of American and African American dance in the 1930s. She grounded her method in movement and dance practices of the Caribbean, African and African American choreography and integrating these various forms. Dunham organized her own dance troupe and was a leader in anthropological research on dance.
