“So That The Weight of This Country Does Not Crush You”: A Virtual Community Healing Space In the spirit of turning moments of fear and brokenness into power, unseen invites you to “So That The Weight of This Country Does Not Crush You”: A Virtual Community Healing Space, on Wednesday, January 22nd at 7:00 pm ET / 4:00 pm PT. The title of this event is inspired by the poem “A Poem so that the Weight of this Country does not Crush You”, by award-winning poet Yosimar Reyes. This event is especially geared for those who identify as undocumented/immigrant, disabled, and perhaps someone like you who is just trying to get by with everyday life. In the aftermath of the 2024 U.S. presidential election and onset of the new year, we recognize and deeply feel the uncertainty ahead. Our communities are consistently scapegoated and used as pawns, leaving systemic violences intact and questioning our humanity. We also know that we cannot count on the system to look out for our lives and future. As our Impact Producer and renowned community leader Conchita Hernandez Legorreta says, “regardless of who [is president], it’s us who got each other.” Participants will be guided through intentional meditations to foster connection and set intentions for the new year. The space will be facilitated by none other than our very own and beloved Pedro (unseen protagonist and co-writer) and Set (unseen director). Join us for an evening of mutual support and care! ACCESSIBILITY SERVICES: This event will be facilitated through a Zoom Webinar with the following accessibility services: Spanish interpretation (by Elizabeth Geglia and Sandra Tapia), ASL interpretation (by Pro Bono ASL), and CART services in English (by Ennis Captioning Solutions).
