Getting It Right First Time in Restorative Dentistry: improving data quality
On Wednesday, 19th January 2022, GIRFT and the Faculty of Dental Surgery (FDS) at the Royal College of Surgeons will be co-hosting a lunchtime webinar to share the findings and recommendations of the GIRFT national report for Hospital Dentistry. The webinar will discuss how GIRFT’s recommendations can lead to better quality data in Restorative Dentistry, including a wider coding review, to help measure clinical outcomes, assure quality and support workforce planning and service improvement.

Liz Jones, GIRFT clinical lead and author of the report, and Matthew Garrett, dean of the FDS, will be joined by:

• Professor Martin Ashley, consultant in Restorative Dentistry and Chair of the coding working group
• Professor Justin Durham, head of the School of Dental Sciences at Newcastle University and professor of orofacial pain and honorary consultant oral surgeon
• Matthew Jarreat, consultant in Restorative Dentistry at Somerset NHS Foundation Trust and associate professor of clinical education at Plymouth University
• Dr Phil Tomson, senior clinical lecturer and honorary consultant in Restorative Dentistry at Birmingham Dental Hospital and School
• Professor Nicola West, professor in Restorative Dentistry (Periodontology), honorary consultant in Restorative Dentistry at Bristol Dental School
• Dr Kalpesh Bavisha, consultant in Restorative Dentistry at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust

The webinar discussion will address the report’s recommendations and implementation, to help improve patient pathways by establishing managed clinical networks to ensure equitable access across the regions.
