Age With Rights Global Rally – Summit

The Global Rally on 3rd March 2022 is a key part of the Age With Rights campaign, led by GAROP, the Global Alliance for the Rights of Older People. On the day, people around the world unite and call on governments to take action to support the stronger protection and promotion of older people’s human rights. The Rally takes place six weeks ahead of the 12th session of the Open-Ended Working Group on Ageing from 11-14th April 2022 where governments and other stakeholders will meet to discuss older people’s rights at the United Nations (UN). The goal of the Rally is to urge governments to participate actively in this UN Working Group session and support a new UN convention on the rights of older people.

This Global Rally Summit highlights the valuable campaigning and advocacy work taking place in countries around the world to strengthen the protection of the rights of older people. It is a platform for dialogue between campaigners and key stakeholders about the importance of a new UN convention on the rights of older people and the role the 12th session of the UN Working Group can play. The Global Rally and its Summit will also coincide with the first week of the UN Human Rights Council meeting in Geneva where governments will be discussing a new report about the inadequacies in the protection of older people’s rights globally. Through this Summit, we will help to draw attention to this and raise the profile of older people’s rights in those discussions.
