Ethiopic Script, aka "Geez Script," is vital to the Ethiopian identity. It emerged several thousand years ago in Northern Ethiopia and spread throughout East Africa and Southern Arabia. In traditional Ethiopian education, the shapes, sounds, and order of the Ethiopic Script have profound meaning, interpretation, and association with natural and religious events. Now, more than ever, external adversaries and internal ethnic forces are restlessly working to substitute Ethiopic Script with Latin Script. Due to the urgency of the situation, Ethiopiawinnet organized a series of conferences. The first of these conferences focuses on the History of the Ethiopic Script, explores its unique features, and shows how it is the finest writing system for any language in Ethiopia.
