The session will highlight leading research & evidence, current work & best practice and the role of collaboration, relationship building & innovation to support the best mental health and well being for children under 12.

With over 25 years of experience doing community-based, participatory action research, evaluation, implementation and knowledge mobilization in the areas of child and youth mental health and race/equity, Purnima sets the vision and strategy for the Knowledge Institute. Her training has been in the fields of psychology and social work, with a focus on community development and social planning, and she is Adjunct Research Professor in the School of Social Work at Carleton University. Since joining the Knowledge Institute in 2008, Purnima has worked with government partners across ministries, agency leaders, and young people and their families across the province to ensure high quality, evidence-based mental health and addictions service delivery for Ontario’s children and young people. Chaya Kulkarni (Director of Infant Mental Health Promotion @The Hospital for Sick Children) Dr. Chaya Kulkarni is the Director of Infant Mental Health Promotion (IEMHP), a program of The Hospital for Sick Children. IEMHP supports practitioners in their efforts to improve mental health outcomes across the lifespan translating and promoting the science of early mental health into practice with families during pregnancy, infancy, and early childhood. Dr. Kulkarni has over 25 years of experience in a number of leadership roles including frontline service delivery, policy analysis, research, and curriculum and resource development. Prior to joining IEMHP, she was VP, Parent and Professional Education at Invest in Kids, and has also served as Senior Policy Analyst and Researcher for the Office of the Official Opposition, Queen’s Park. Dr. Kulkarni is a board member of The World Association of Infant Mental Health and an adviser to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
