The main idea of creating an emulated real-world environment is to provide scenario-based learning activities based on real-life situations and contexts. The reason why we need robot and IoT-based tangible object to build such kind of learning environment is to fully utilize the different affordances of these two modalities. The role of IoT-based tangible object is to facilitate embodied learning and the role of robot is to provide human-like social interactions.
Several learning applications will be demonstrated by showing YouTube videos. Some theoretical backgrounds and the design principles/guidelines for learning activity designs will be elaborated following each of the demonstration. Lessons learned and future research directions will be shared before concluding my talk.
Dr. Nian-Shing Chen is a Chair Professor in the Institute for Research Excellence in Learning Sciences and Program of Learning Sciences at the National Taiwan Normal University, Taiwan. He received the National Outstanding Research award three times in 2008, 2011, and 2015. He is ranked in second place on the Top Authors list by article count in Computers & Education.
