Webinar to Meet and Greet the Candidates to the UN Committee against Torture

On 11 October 2021 the states parties to the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment will elect five members to serve on the Committee against Torture. 11 candidates have been put forward for the positions.

In order to promote strengthening of the membership, transparency around the elections as well as equal opportunity, a group of NGOs that engage regularly with the Committee, namely Amnesty International, Association for the Prevention of Torture (APT), Human Rights Watch (HRW), International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims (IRCT), World Organizations against Torture (OMCT), REDRESS and International Federation of ACATs (FIACAT), are organising a virtual dialogue amongst interested candidates and States Parties, CSOs and NHRIs. Interpretation will be provided in English, French and Spanish.

The organisers take no position for or against individual candidates. States, NHRI, NPMs, and CSOs should not use this platform to promote or oppose individual candidates.
