Aperture Education presents Voices from the Field: Jessie Fuller - Holistic MTSS: Integrating Space and Structures that Support, Engage, and Empower Staff

In January of 2022, the National Education Association conducted a poll to help quantify just how much stress educators are feeling right now. Among the eye-opening findings, the poll found that the number of educators who say they will leave the profession sooner than planned has risen significantly since August 2021. NEA also found that 90% of its members say feeling burned out is a serious problem, 86% say they have seen more educators leaving the profession or retiring early since the start of the pandemic, and 80% report unfilled job openings have led to more work obligations for those who are still at work. Now is the time to be intentional and committed to offering space and structures that support, engage, and empower all our employees – if we don’t, both staff and students will continue to suffer. Providing teams with trainings on self-care is great, but it isn’t enough. We must be intentional about building systems of care within our organizations. Multi-tiered system of supports is a framework with an array of initiatives that help raise student achievement and support behavior. Imagine a multi-tiered system of support for educators! Visualize an MTSS model specifically designed to decrease burnout and strengthen employee engagement, performance, and well-being!
