Medium-Term Economic Planning in Thailand and Malaysia – A Comparative Analysis
REGIONAL ECONOMIC STUDIES PROGRAMME

About the Webinar

Five-year development plans are used in Thailand and Malaysia to chart the economic trajectories in these countries in the medium-term. The efficacy of such plans depends on the capacity of the planning agencies involved. This webinar evaluates the effectiveness of five-year development plan formulation and implementation in Thailand and Malaysia using insights from organization theory. The capacities of planning agencies in these countries - the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council in Thailand and the Economic Planning Unit in Malaysia – are examined at three levels, namely institutional, organizational and individual. The webinar will also discuss the 12th Malaysia Plan (2021-2025) and 13th National Economic and Social Development Plan (2023-2027).
