Founded in 1999, the RKC is an annual forum hosted by the Greater Sacramento Capitol Chapter of ARMA. RKC is designed to consider all information governance issues amidst the overall information technology capabilities and concerns that impinge on record trustworthiness.

Digital Transformation - A new Era?

Abstract: Organizations are under constant pressure to leverage new and exciting digital technologies (IoT, AI, Digital Twins, Distributed Ledger, etc.) in their operation and their business transformation. These new technologies (not unlike previous generations) have created new challenges not experienced with traditional business systems. Using Internet of Things (IoT) technology in applications in healthcare, smart cities, and logistics creates new challenges: how does IT deal with solutions that operate across the physical/digital divide and are controlled by a different and well entrenched Operational Technology group that values safety far more than security, and how does the organization deal with the governance, privacy and records management issues related to the data in these new systems. The same can be said about AI, Digital Twins and Distributed Ledger. This session will survey these issues and cite a few digital transformation examples. The session will also explore the positive role Information Governance professionals can play in surmounting these challenges.

Bio: Bassam Zarkout is the Chair of the Digital Transformation Working Group at the Industry IoT Consortium. He is an Ottawa-based technology executive with 30+ years of experience in technology organizations in Canada, US and Europe, including 8 years in executive C-positions, mainly as CTO. Bassam is the founder of IGnPower, an IIoT strategy consulting practice. He is active within the IIC in areas such as Digital Transformation, Industrial AI, Trustworthiness, Data Protection, Distributed Ledger, and Security.
