Task Committee Proposed Life Member Changes: Legacy Life
The Task Committee on Life Members has worked for the last 18 months to examine changes to Life Member criteria. The committee completed two quantitative research projects and reviewed qualitative information provided by Life Members. The committee synthesized this information into a set of recommendations. ASCE’s Board requests sharing these recommendations with Life Members before final Board approval. Please come and actively participate in this webinar.

Dennis D. Truax, Ph.D., P.E., DEE, D.WRE, F.ASCE
ASCE 2022 President
Dennis D. Truax is professor emeritus of the Richard A. Rula School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Mississippi State University. During his 41 years, he served as school director, department head, and professor. He held the James T. White endowed chair for 15 years and was director or co-director of the Mississippi Transportation Research Institute for 13 years. Truax served on ASCE’s Board of Direction as a director and Society treasurer. He has worked on numerous ASCE committees and task forces, and he was the faculty advisor to the Mississippi State ASCE Student Chapter for 26 years.
Edward Kavazanjian, Jr, Ph.D., P.E., NAE, D.GE, Dist.M.ASCE
Chair, ASCE Task Committee on Life Members
Edward Kavazanjian, Jr., is a Regents Professor and the Ira A. Fulton Professor of Geotechnical Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU). He joined ASU in August 2004 after 20 years in engineering practice. In February 2013, Professor Kavazanjian was elected to the National Academy of Engineering and I 2018 he was elected a Distinguished Member of ASCE. Professor Kavazanjian is a Past-President of the ASCE Geo-Institute (G-I). He has also served on the Executive Committee of the ASCE San Francisco Section Geotechnical Group and as Chairman of the ASCE Los Angeles Section Geotechnical Group. In March, 2022, Professor Kavazanjian delivered the Terzaghi lecture, the most prestigious honor bestowed by the ASCE Geo-Institute (G-I), at the G-I’s annual GeoCongress. Other honors bestowed on Professor Kavazanjian by ASCE include the 2011 Karl Terzaghi Award, the 2010 Thomas A. Middlebrooks Award, and the 2009 Ralph B. Peck Award.
