2022 CRB Webinar Series: Rootstock Characteristics and New Scions in California
In this webinar, Dr. Mike Roose will discuss how rootstocks influence many aspects of citrus tree growth, productivity and tree health. As hotter and drier years become more frequent it will become more important for growers to choose rootstocks with better tolerance to heat, more efficient water use, and, in some locations, better tolerance to salinity and calcareous soils. This talk will summarize research, by his lab and others, to characterize responses of citrus rootstocks to these factors. This information can be helpful in choosing a rootstock for a new planting, and in deciding how to manage an existing planting on a particular rootstock.

Dr. Tracy Kahn will follow to discuss sources of new scion cultivars for California with a focus on existing cultivars or budsports that were introduced from within or outside California. She will provide results of our multiyear fruit quality evaluations of these recently introduced cultivars that now have bud sources available from the Citrus Clonal Protection Program. Dr. Kahn will also provide you with online sources on how to obtain more information about these and other cultivars currently being evaluated.

Cindy Fake, Horticulture and Small Farms Advisor, Placer and Nevada Counties will be opening the webinar with a regional farm advisers update.
