Description
For signatories of the Australia and New Zealand Openness Agreements on Animal Research and Teaching, and those still considering signing up. This webinar includes ideas for getting started, what to expect, the support and advice available. Schools are a key audience for any science communication initiative. Young people are in a learning environment, and it is important that they understand science, its methodologies and key principles if we are to inspire a new generation of researchers, clinical professionals, animal care staff, and research technicians. We also know that young people are passionate and exposed to extreme ideas and beliefs. For many working in research, their own experiences as a young person leave them worried about what speaking with school audiences might entail and whether they have the right skills. In this session Bella and Jodi will share ideas, resources and tips about getting started on working with school-aged groups to talk clearly and honestly about animals in research. They will consider the right approaches for different age groups, practical and administrative issues, how different types of organisations or groups can get involved with school aged audiences for an experience which is positive for everyone involved. This webinar will be live at the time stated, and the session recording will be available to all for 72 hours after the end of the webinar. You will need to register to view the recording. All past webinars are available to UAR Oceania members through the video portal. If you work for a member organisation and are unsure how to access these, please contact Bella Lear.
