[LIVE TALK] One-stop solutions for food safety analysis

Food fraud and safety has become a widespread concern and issue for the consumers. In January 2013, the Food Safety Authority of Ireland uncovered a food fraud in which horse meat was being passed off as beef across Europe and exposed the complex nature of the food production and marketing chain. In February 2013 and March 2014, the European Commission adopted a recommendation for a coordinated control plan to evaluate the prevalence of fraudulent practices. New tests using molecular biology techniques such as PCR are constantly being developed in response to the challenges that the food industry faces daily. The sector has been one of the last to adopt such technology, but its success rate increases the potential for the development of new tests and products to analyse what we eat today.

In this 30-minute presentation, Josué Carvalho (Business and Strategic Relations Officer) from ALS Portugal will highlight the innovative solutions that ALS and Invitek Molecular offer in the molecular analysis of food safety and fraud using optimized DNA extraction kits for different food sample types in combination with the ALS food detection kits.
