Collateral Consequences of Having a Conviction
Do you have a criminal conviction or arrest in your past that you feel is affecting your job search? This presentation will help you to understand how involvement in the criminal justice system may impact your life. You’ll learn more about how to obtain background checks and records of arrest and prosecution, or RAP Sheets and how these documents can help you prepare for interviews; different kinds of post-conviction relief for which you might be eligible; and a free legal program called the “Breaking Barriers Pro Bono Project” that can help you in your reentry journey. This presentation will be conducted by Ms. Elizabeth Justesen, Esq., Chief Community Outreach Officer at the Legal Aid Society of Suffolk County Breaking Barriers Pro Bono Project.

For participants with disabilities, if you require any reasonable accommodations to participate in the event, please notify the Employee Development and Growth through Education (EDGE) Office at least 72 hours prior to the event at labor.sm.training@labor.ny.gov.
