Digitalized Prosthodontic Practice
Date: November 24th, 2021

Speaker: Dr. Jongyub Kim

Topic: Digitalized Prosthodontic Practice

Abstract:
Currently, many things are changing due to the development of digital technology in various fields. The field of restorative dentistry is not exceptional, and it has long been used to customized abutments for dental implants, zirconia restorations designing by cad/cam technology.
For the dental restorations, every single restoration must be individualized and mass production is impossible. Since the shape of each tooth as well as the space given for restoration is different, each prosthesis has long been individualized through traditional casting methods, and recently, the efficiency of the process has increased due to the use of digital technology.
In particular, not only the milling method, but also the so-called 3D printing can be used not only for modeling but also for manufacturing various appliances, so the areas where digital technology can be applied are becoming more diverse.
Digital technology is being used not only in the final prosthesis but also in the diagnosis and treatment planning stage, and digital technology is also used in fixed restorations such as crowns and bridges, as well as removable prostheses.
In addition, the introduction of printing methods has eliminated restrictions on materials available for final prostheses.
I would like to introduce contents that are helpful in daily practice by standardization, which are various advantages of digital methods including cad/cam, and the convenience of communication with digital data.
In this presentation, I will focus on clinical cases on changes in the dental restorative field that have changed due to the use of digital technologies such as intra-oral scanning, cad/cam, milling, and 3D printing and etc.
