Description
Radiation therapy for uveal melanoma has been practiced for over a century. Despite achieving high local control rates of 95%, radiation can cause serious, visually debilitating effects. To prevent radiation retinopathy (RR) altogether, alternatives to radiation therapy are being explored. Join us to hear from Dr. Arun Singh, Director of the Department of Ophthalmic Oncology at the Cole Eye Institute, Cleveland Clinic, about several promising treatments currently under investigation in clinical trials. These include a light-activated therapy that selectively destroys the cell membranes of malignant cells, novel pharmaceuticals to prevent and treat RR, and an oral drug that blocks a critical step in the molecular pathogenesis of uveal melanoma.
