With a particular interest in linking historical events to particular texts, Stephanie will speak to her ground-breaking, illustrated account of The City of Babylon: a history c.2000 BC to AD 117, when Trajan made a pilgrimage to Babylon to make offerings in the building where Alexander the Great had died.
Stephanie Dalley, an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at Somerville College, and member of the Oriental Institute, Oxford, has used her experience of excavations in various countries of the Middle East. In particular she has published tablets from British excavations at Nimrud and Tell al-Rimah, as well as numerous Akkadian cuneiform texts found in our national museums. She has long experience of teaching in Oxford for the Oriental Institute, Faculty of Theology, and School of Archaeology. Her book Myths from Mesopotamia as well as her TV documentaries on the hanging garden of Babylon will be familiar to some of you.
