Hybrid Workshop: Was there a Synagogue in the Athenian Agora
by Jocelyn Burney, Carol and Eric Meyers ECA Doctoral Dissertation Fellow

In 1933, a fragment of marble incised with a menorah and lulav was discovered near the Metroon in the Agora of Athens, leading excavation director Homer Thompson to propose that the Metroon had served as a synagogue in the late Roman period. This lecture assesses Thompson’s theory using original field documentation, photos, and other archival data.
