PSMA PET is a newer, highly sensitive imaging scan that can detect prostate cancer metastases much earlier, when they are much smaller. Many patients have questions: How does it work? Do I need one? Phillip J. Koo, MD, is Division Chief of Diagnostic Imaging at the Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center in Arizona. He is a diplomate of both the American Board of Radiology and American Board of Nuclear Medicine and is the Chair of the Quality and Evidence Committee for the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging.
Ira and Sharron are a patient and caregiver who will share their prostate cancer journey. Ira's diagnostic process included a PSMA PET scan. Today, he is doing well!
