A 21st Century Approach to ADA Compliance: Equity and Access

Description

For more than 30 years, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) has required disability access for postsecondary education, but when only narrowly interpreted, access does not necessarily ensure inclusion. This webinar will discuss the ADA and its implications for practice in higher education. We will discuss universal design strategies to expand our concept of disability access to provide more equitable and just experiences on campus.

Dr. Amanda Kraus serves as Assistant Vice President for Campus Life and Executive Director for Disability Resources at the University of Arizona. She is also Associate Professor of Practice in Higher Education and teaches courses on student services and disability. She looks to disability studies to inform research and teaching that challenges deficit or tragedy rhetoric on disability and frames disability in the context of social justice. Dr. Kraus is President for the Association of Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD) Board of Directors and has had the privilege of working with universities and organizations around the country and internationally.
