Many California Humanities grant programs require or encourage the involvement of a Humanities Advisor — a scholar or culture bearer with expert knowledge of their subject. Join us at our next Tools of the Trade: A Practical Series for Humanities Programmers event as we explore the following questions: How does the involvement of a humanities advisor benefit a project? How do programmers find the right humanities advisor? What professional benefits do humanities advisors find in the process? What makes for effective collaboration? What roles have humanities advisors played in recent projects?
In this session, hear from three pairs of recent California Humanities grantees about their successful collaborations. Project directors and humanities advisors Laurie Coyle and Vicki Ruiz (ADIOS AMOR documentary), Ildi Carlisle-Cummins and Caroline Collins (We Are Not Strangers Here Podcast), and Kathleen Gutierrez and Dioscoro Recio (Watsonville is in the Heart archive) will gather to answer questions and share their experiences, in conversation with Dr. William F. Deverell, Director of the Huntington-USC Institute on California and the West.
