Making Church Records Accessible: Reflections from an Archives Internship
When donated records arrive at the Congregational Library & Archives, the work of archival processing begins. In this talk, Dr. Karen Clausen-Brown, an MLIS student at Simmons University, pulls back the curtain on the effort and expertise it takes behind-the-scenes to make a collection publicly available by reflecting on her experience with processing the Hillsborough, N.H. Hillsborough Center Congregational Society records, 1890-2019, a recent donation to the CLA. She will share what she learned as an intern working under the supervision of Archivist Zachary Bodnar about strategies and best practices for making a church records collection easily accessible to researchers.
