Dr. Ahmed El Shamsy
Professor of Islamic Thought and the Department Chair @University of Chicago
Dr. Ahmed El Shamsy is Professor of Islamic Thought and the Department Chair at the University of Chicago. He studies the intellectual history of Islam, focusing on the evolution of the classical Islamic disciplines and scholarly culture within their broader historical context. His research addresses themes such as orality and literacy, the history of the book, and the theory and practice of Islamic law.
Amir Abu Ghudda
Amir Abu Ghudda has a BA in Political Science and Certificate in Economics from the University of Regina and has a JD from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law. He has also pursued traditional study in Turkey under scholars of hadith and fiqh. He has completed articles (legal training) at Blakes, Cassels, & Graydon and has clerked at the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal, after which he practiced as a litigator in Saskatchewan. Amir will soon begin his Ph.D. in Arabic and Islamic Studies at Georgetown University. Amir is currently a senior fellow at the Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research and an integral member of the CIK Strategic Planning Committee.
